Firebase Analytics and Google Ads

Firebase Analytics and Google Ads

1. Prerequisites

Linking Firebase with Google Ads can provide valuable insights into user behavior and conversions, enabling you to optimize your advertising campaigns effectively.

You'll need to ensure that you meet certain prerequisites:
  1. To link a Firebase project to Google Ads, use the same Google account.
  2. In Google Ads: You must have access to a Google Ads account. If you don't have one, create a Google Ads account. That account needs administrative access.
  3. In Firebase:
    1. Your account needs to be the owner of the project that you want to link.
    2. For Android apps: You need to add fingerprint in Firebase. See the instructions below.
    3. For iOS apps: You need to provide App Store ID and Team ID. See the instructions below.
To add fingerprint, follow the steps below:
Step 1: In Firebase, click the Settings icon, and then select Project Settings.
Step 2: In the General tab, scroll down and click your Android app.
Step 3: Click Add fingerprint, and enter your fingerprint.

If you don’t know how to find your fingerprint, proceed with the following instructions:
Step 1: Log in to Google Play Console.
Step 2: Click your app, and then navigate to Setup on the left side.
Step 3: Click App Signing. You will find SHA-1 certificate fingerprint and SHA-256 certificate fingerprint under the App signing key certificate.

Step 4: Copy one of the two certificates and paste it into the certificate fingerprint in Firebase.

To add App Store ID and Team ID, simply adhere to the steps provided below:
Step 1: In Firebase, click the Settings icon, and then select Project Settings.
Step 2: In the General tab, scroll down and click your iOS app.
Step 3: Enter your App Store ID and Team ID.

If you don’t know how to find your App Store ID and Team ID, below are some instructions:
  1. You can find your App Store ID in your app's URL. In the example below, 123456789 is the App Store ID. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/yourapp/id123456789
  2. To find your Team ID, follow the steps as described below:
Step 1: Log in to your Apple Developer Account.
Step 2: Navigate to the Membership details.

Step 3: Copy the Team ID value under the Membership details.

Step 1: Sign in to Firebase.

Step 2: Click the Settings icon and select Project Settings.

Step 3: On the Project Settings page, click the Integrations tab, and then click Link on the Google Ads card.

Step 4: Select the Google Ads accounts you want to link.
You have the option of automatically sharing the audiences you create in Google Analytics for Firebase with your linked Google Ads accounts for interest-based advertising.

Step 5: Click Link to Google Ads.

By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can seamlessly connect Firebase and Google Ads, enhancing your data-driven marketing journey.
Did you know?
If you are using Google Tag Manager to manage the tags and events, you are recommended to enable Ignore duplicate instances of on-page configuration. This feature helps prevent potential issues, such as duplicated data tracking and conflicting triggers.

Follow the steps below to enable the setting in Google Tag Manager:
  1. In Admin, select Manage Google tag.
  1. Enable Ignore duplicate instances of on-page configuration (recommended).
  1. Click Save.
