PayPal - Braintree: Testing and Go Live

Linked PayPal testing

Braintree accepts PayPal payment. You need the API credentials for your PayPal sandbox test account to link that PayPal sandbox test account to your Braintree sandbox account.

Linked PayPal testing is available for iOS v4, Android v2, and all versions of the JavaScript SDKs.

Step 1: Create a PayPal business sandbox account

1. Log in to PayPal Developer Dashboard, then go to Sandbox > Accounts > Create Account.



2. In the pop-up that appears, click Create custom account.



3. Select the same Country/Region as your Braintree sandbox account and select the account type as Business. Then, enter other required information and click Create Account to finish. 


Step 2: Create a new app to get the PayPal sandbox API credentials

1. In PayPal Developer Dashboard, go to the side menu > My Apps & Credentials > Create App.



2. Enter the app name and select the same sandbox developer account as the test account created in the previous step, then click Create App.



3. The app is created successfully. Copy the sandbox API credentials to a safe place.


1. Log in to Braintree Sandbox Control Panel, then click the gear icon at the top bar of the screen > Processing > Payment Methods > PayPal and turn the payment method on.



2. Click Link Sandbox and enter the sandbox API credentials you copied in the previous step, then click Link PayPal Sandbox to finish.


Go live

You sandbox account isn't linked to your production account in any way. Please link your PayPal live account to your Braintree production account. For details, please refer to this article.
