Push notifications in Alphonso

Push notifications in Alphonso

Push notifications have been proven to be a direct and cost-efficient communication channel, fostering user engagement and retention. In this guide, we’ll explore the scope of push notifications in Alphonso and how to send push notifications.

1. Scope of push notifications

Alphonso enables you to send push notifications to engage with your users effectively. The scope encompasses a range of features outlined below:
  1. Add a headline and an image.
  2. Add a link to a product, category, or a custom page to link the push notification to a specific destination within your app.
  3. Schedule push notifications.
  4. Manage the push notification history in the All notifications section.
Note: If you want to send segmented and automated messages, we recommend integrating your app with a marketing third-party integration such as OneSignal or Firebase.

2. Sending push notifications

Step 1: In Aphonoso, go to Notifications.

Step 2: Select your push type.
  1. Plain text will direct users to the home screen of your app.
  2. Product will lead users to the PDP of the product you select.
  3. Category will direct users to the linked category.
  4. Custom page allows you to direct users to a specific custom page within the app.

Step 3: Enter the headline and message.
Craft a brief and compelling headline and message. Keep in mind the character limit in both the headline and message fields. For more tips on creating effective and engaging push notification content, please read Best practices for push notifications

Notes:
  1. If you select Category or Product push type, select the category or product that is associated with the notification.
  2.  If the push type you select is Custom page, select the custom page from the dropdown list.

Step 4: Upload an asset.
Upload a relevant image or asset that complements your message.

Notes
  1. Asset size recommendation: Less than 1 MB.
  2. Asset dimension: Width must be at least 300px, height at least 200px.

Step 5: (Shopify only): Select language segment(s).
Add segments you want to send the push message to. If none is selected, the message will be sent to all users.

Step 6: Send the push notification.
Once you've created your push, you can send it in real-time by selecting Send now at the bottom right-hand corner or Schedule your push to send at a later time.

3. Push notifications analytics

Viewing push notification analytics gives you insights into user engagement and behavior, helping you track the effectiveness of your push notification campaigns.

You can view data on push notifications in Alphonso and Firebase.
  1. In Alphonso, navigate to Insights. On the Overview tab, you can see KPI cards and Metric cards, including:
    1. KPI push opt-in: The percentage of users who choose to receive push notifications over the chosen period.

    1. Push opt-in metric: Specific percentages of push opt-in for iPhone OS and Android devices.

  1. In the Firebase console, you can view the following push analytics data per message by clicking the notification on the Campaigns tab or access the Reports tab with a graph showing funnel analysis - the number of sends, received, impressions, and opened notifications for a given timeframe. For detailed information, please take a look at Firebase cloud (push) messaging. Note that this data is not applicable if the app is using OneSignal.
